I had the opportunity to attend the program "Teaching Foreign Languages to Students with Learning Difficulties" with Ms Vicky Kaperoni. Ms Kaperoni is a highly skilled educator in the field of learning difficulties, with incredible communicative ability, excellent knowledge, and a very friendly demeanor. The knowledge I gained, I am sure, will help me enrich my lessons with enjoyable and creative activities for my students with learning difficulties, as well as for those who are typically developing.

In the 24 years that I have run a language center, I have attended many seminars. However, in most of them, academic language and complex definitions were used, and many of the teachers had never taught in a classroom or suggested ideas that were simply unfeasible in a real classroom environment. Since Covid, we have turned to online seminars (which, for us in remote islands, have been a "godsend"), and through the PALSO association, I came to know Ms Kaperoni. From the very first seminar, I knew that this woman had the training I had been looking for all these years in professional development! Educated in the field, but above all, a true professional herself. (What our sailors would call a "practical captain.") We don't lack theory, we lack practical experience. We need someone who can tell us whether theory works in practice or not because they have worked with it and know—especially in the field of teaching children with learning difficulties, which are now present in all of our classrooms. That’s Ms Kaperoni for me! She has an incredible ability to communicate, understands our needs because she is one of us, has worked on what she advises, and has hands-on experience to know what works and what doesn’t. She doesn’t use technical jargon; she tries to simplify the theory so we can all understand and gives us practical examples. Thanks to this seminar, I gained knowledge and became much better at my work thanks to Ms Kaperoni, and I truly feel very lucky to have met her.
